[Avid-L2] Corrupt Canon 5D Files (cross-posted)

I was recent provided with a set Canon 7D video files, about half of which are unreadable, reported as corrupt. They do take up space so presumably there is content. The camera will play them, but not Quicktime. I have looked into at a few repair apps/services, like Treasured and Digital Rebellions Quicktime Repair but still trying to decide which path to pursue.

Anyone had success with these or other repair techniques? Apparently this type of corruption is not uncommon with Canon Quicktimes and there is a small cottage industry around repairing them, but I can't find good information on what is actually happening or techniques for more "direct" repair, or for that matter, avoiding the problem in the first place!

I'd like to learn more as I expect to see more of these in the future!

Cheers,
tod
