There's a key difference between Avids Sphere and Adobe anywhere.
With Sphere the workstation still does all the work and save media files locally it basically just replicates the same collaberative working arrangement you have if you use interplay and ISIS in a shared facility. But it does it via a remote link and uses a combination of proxy files and background full res file movements.
But it's the same avid on your desktop working the same way and doing all the effects work locally. So the load on the central server is just the file movement and streaming.
With the Adobe solution the effect generation and rendering is all passed back to the server so the workstation is really just showing you the streamed result. This looks interesting for low spec remote edit hardware (like ipads etc) but you are laodingt he server up with all that effects work and I'm just sure how that will scale.
The avid solution is basically an expansion of what is tried an tested the Adobe solution is a new inovation and unproven as yet.
The only real shame is that Avids Sphere is only viable for the big boys and not even all of them I suspect. You have to have the Avid shared netwroking setup (and many post houses haven't gone that route) and it's not a cheap solution.
So for poor folks it's just another great idea their clients can't afford.
Once again Avid seem to be aiming at the top end broadcasters and leaving those lower than that to find an alternative and Adobe could be the one. Of course that then means a swing away from the Avid edit interface to Premiere which I'm not sure is what Avid want.
Really hard to grasp their direction. Do they just want the top end business or are they trying to grab the whole range of users?
Different messages seem to be coming across.
