AMA link then transcode anything that is H264, in my experience (but my computers are not the latest or fastest). Back up the cards twice and work from one of the backups.
If you go offline to online, I think MC 6.5 is pretty good at keeping track of original file names and file paths (but from recent experience, keep strong control of where you keep the original files).
