RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Machine Room Best Practices

Yeah, I've only ever had to do front panels from one tape to another. It's a real shame as I really found that part of the job (I'm an assistant, not an editor - although i guess the term is tech op although i actually never know how to describe my job to people) to be one of the most satisfying. It doesn't feel like you're working in "Tech" when you can't push big coloured buttons and plumb cables in to machines, it's all just turning in to file-nannying. I've met guys who've been working a couple of years and don't know how to stripe a tape. I guess this happens every time new technology surplants old technology but I liked the old technology better. I felt like i was always learning something about those machines, I've yet to learn a new way to copy files from A to B.

Most Sony VTRs can operate as controller for another deck, but it's a

1-to-1 relationship. We used to be able to roll multiple decks with our

linear Axial edit controller.

Although most of the time we would just manually start them.
