RE: [Avid-L2] FR: Transcode Option - Only transcode non-native clips...

Hi Pat,

reference clips will assume the entire length of the clip
though. I want just what's in the sequence. On DX hardware I've
played out with AMA sucessfully, on Kona hardware, not so much luck.
Even on fully spec'd Z800s.

Roger,

Well, i sure hope you're missing a lot of things, you end up in a

psychiatric ward if you know too much.

(Remember my retreat?)

In this case, afaik (i try to forget as much as possible) you are spot on.

My take on this, on jobs spanning more than a day i avoid AMA / non native

codecs like the plague.

It's not only the transcode, it's the entire media management that always

seem to have at least one little annoying thing that takes at least an hour

to figure out.

(perhaps i'm sloppy. (well, leave out the 'perhaps.))

For this (and other stuff) i've made a front end for FFmbc / writeAvidMXF to

do all the transcoding to DNxHD MXF outside Avid.

If i need both offline / online compression, i just do the transcode twice.

(Since i control the file creation, a tape name can be assigned to the files

so relinking is done old fashioned style.)

Just tried it with a sequence - and it works with just one Avid resolution

and a bunch of AMA clips (deselecting 'include reformatted clips at target

resolution). But I think the OP wanted to JUST transcode the AMA linked

clips (I do, anyway). If you mix say 720P, 1080P and AMA and transcode the

sequence to 1080P, it will transcode the 720P and the AMA, even if I'm happy

leaving the 720P alone. Am I missing something?
