There's a pretty big community of people and some researchers who get
graphics cards to run through the expresscard slots on their laptops. So
the bandwidth is there for the PC laptops, but you're right it probably
won't work on the MBP. Apple is just no fun when it comes to computers.

As far as the USB3 solutions go... Just make sure that you have a renesas
USB3 host controller (uPD720200) on your motherboard (my thinkpad w530 has
an intel host controller so it probably won't work right). There's a
section in the desktop video manual that talks about this.
