Apple does not have different versions of the OS for specific machines.
Back in the pre-OSX days, they would occasionally have enablers for
specific models, but they have not chosen to do that with OSX to this
point. OSX just installs everything. If its not needed for your machine,
it just doesn't do anything (like the zillion printer drivers and language
files).

The only issue is with the installer itself (and the board check I
mentioned). The OS installation should be exactly the same regardless of
what machine you install on.

  1. It is recommended by Apple to not to install Mac OS X earlier version than what came with the machine. So, it is suggested to create copy of Mac OS Xwith cloning applications like SuperDuper, Stellar Drive Clone or CCC.
