[Avid-L2] eVGA display adapter overscans monitor set to 1920x1080?

I've posted a bit about this before.  I recently picked up an eVGA UV Plus+ 19 USB 2.0 to DVI External Video Adapter.  I'm running one of my two matching HP W2371d external displays from my circa July 2009 MBP OS 10.6.8 through this display adapter but when I set the resolution to 1920x1080 the image over scans the monitor on the left side losing the apple menu and the next heading on the menu bar.  If I set the display to 1680x1050 I see the full menu bar as I do with the next two lower resolution choices.  I'm in contact with eVGA support but so far no resolution other than the possibility of a a defective unit.  It just seems really strange that it would work at other resolutions and still be defective.  I've downloaded the latest Ver. 1.8 driver for mac but when I look in system profiler it shows the following:

UV195:

  Product ID:    0x0372
Vendor ID:    0x17e9  (DisplayLink (UK) Ltd.)
  Version:     1.01
  Serial Number:    T119170194
  Speed:    Up to 480 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:    DisplayLink
  Location ID:    0x24100000 / 2
  Current Available (mA):    500
  Current Required (mA):    500

It is the right manufacturer but why does it say version 1.01 when the downloaded driver is listed as ver. 1.8.  Just curious if anybody has any suggestions.  I'm really trying to keep both external monitors set to the same resolution as I'm under the impression Avid likes it better that way.  The overscan happens on both monitors when feed by the eVGA adapter but both are fine when feed by the mini display port to VGA adaper.  Hmmmmm.
