Re: [Avid-L2] FCP X update

If you are looking to edit collaboratively, there is another choice: Editshare hardware with Avid, Apple, or Lightworks. They virtualized the project file to enable realtime collaboration and an edit-while-still-recording option. I assume even FCPX can work with that.

BTW, I find the LW option intriguing - before I moved to Avid, I assisted on a Lightworks system. The main editor loved it and wouldn't edit on anything else.

I agree. FCP X cannot do exactly what you want, exactly that way. (But as Bunim Murray established, while FCP 7 and earlier couldn't share in the Avid way, it was still viable).  I fully expect FCP X to get that ability in the future, but right now if that's the most important thing, then media composer is the only viable choice. As I've said repeatedly before.

Correct. Now how many Unity systems/seats are there? Compared with 2 million FCP 7 seats? That's not the only viable market for an NLE. Only Media Composer really does that well, but Premiere Pro, FCP Classic, Vegas, Edius and FCP X all have sold hundreds of thousands of seats regardless.

Premiere Pro will likely get to shared media environments before FCP X as they have already pre-announced a tech demo of their collaborative solution.  But I suspect you wouldn't jump to Premiere Pro just because of that :)
