You should be able to nest all of those and create your own 'presets' of multi effects, and use them as a layer and adjust after applying from the effect editor.
This is only useful if your effects are in somewhat repeating during your show.
As far as applying one effect to selected clips, use this with care. I had more than once that selecting more than 5-8 clips at a time overwhelmed the system (I'm on 5.5.3), so keep saving frequently.
