Nah, what i ment was not scaling, but altering the canvas size in PSD, then
duplicate (copy / paste) the smaller image a couple of times and place it in
the right spot, flatten and use.
Never mind, i've put a HD version online as well (and on the Avidscreencast
site all are available as well).

The trick itself is very old. It was used to send two images (eg for video
conferencing) over one connection. (of course at half res.)
I've used it to double the content on laserdisc. (Using an Amiga for the key
signal.)
Playback was trough a dedicated video card on a 386, that was able to show
only field one or two.
Fun times, don't want to go back...

How would the copy and paste work? I haven't used your trick but IIRC its
high cons of each or one field to key the offset frame on the field to
reverse field order. Wouldn't the line count be totally different between
SD and HD so cutting and pasting wouldn't work? Perhaps I'm missing
something obvious.
