So, I'm working on a project today and I knew that I wanted to be able to Add Comments to every clip in the timeline (a selects reel of interview bites)
TIP: I was able to use the Command Palette's ability to map menu commands to actually map the menu commands from the Sequence Clip Name Menu so that I could place the Add Command action to a keystroke instead of having to constantly pull it down from the Sequence Clip Name menu. Very handy. I wasn't sure if I could do this with non-standard menus, but you can.
FEATURE REQUEST: I was trying to move as quickly as possible, so after I added the keyboard command, I could hit the A button to Add a Comment, but then I had to CLICK in the Add Comment text box to be able to type in to it. The behavior I'd like to see is that the text box is automatically highlighted and ready to type. This is similar to the behavior of SO MANY other things in Avid... create a new bin and if you start typing, you change its name, etc... So that's the first request. The other is that hitting RETURN saves the comment. Right now, hitting return puts a CARRIAGE RETURN in the Comment itself. So to "close out" the comment when you're done, you have to CLICK on the OK button on the screen.
I don't want to have to CLICK things. If I did, I'd edit on FCP-X. It should be: tap a button to Add Comment, type the comment, tap the RETURN key. The end.
I reserve the right to be wrong. Please feel free to tell me how adding my proposed change would screw up the way YOU work. Or would it help? Or make no difference? Or did you not know you could Add comments in the timeline... and SEE them in the timeline? It's a great device for organizing non-scripted pieces. I'm also using Local Clip color, but there aren't enough colors to organize the thoughts I need to organize, so I numbered the concepts and type the number into the comment, so now I can organize the interview answers by concept. I can also use the Clip Colors to see how each speaker/interviewee is dispersed throughout my edit.
