Pretty much every prime time show I've finished in 4:4:4 used or wanted to
use DPX's in some way, be it VFX or whatever.
Avid *did* just release stereoscopic editing functionality in MC6. Most 2D
films and every single 3D film I've worked was 99.99% dpx from the effects
houses....Clients often race the files from the effects house over to a
screening. It would be tough to say: "Oh, you just have to wait a bit.
We're converting your files to something else with a baked-in LUT...Would
you care to visit some stock footage sites from within Media Composer while
we wait? Huh? Yes. Your project is on a system that is on the internet.
What could possibly happen?" (I am KIDDING! No editing systems anywhere
near the internet here!)
It's so silly, since DS has all this dpx/LUT stuff in spades. With all the
DS features that have found their way in to DS (and factoring in that DS is
hardly on anyone's radar anymore) why not launch yet another raiding party
and get that stuff over?
