Possibly this will help:
You can Right-Click on an audio Segment from a Group Clip and then select an alternate from the menu.

However, if your idea is to have modifier key make it so you can use Previous in Group/Next in Group to change audio in the same way that you can change video, I would agree. That would be useful. Possibly Opt/Alt, as you suggested could be programmed?
