This discussion is why there are so many options in Avid that not everyone uses.
Personally I think that Terry's idea is valid. The way I use locators is a little different - and less common than on every clip. Also, since I usually put sequences in their own bin or bins, those marker-filled sequences wouldn't have any effect on using it to sort or sift.
I don't know how often I'd use this feature, if it was added, but I can definitely see an advantage for it. Obviously there are work-arounds you could use, like adding a clip color or a Comment whenever you added a marker... if your use of markers was rare enough that it would help you sort, then this wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience...
I also have to say that I was shocked to see that locators had been changed to markers. When I started producing my latest Avid training series for Class on Demand, I'd even written a little blurb for FCP users stating that locators were the same as markers, but when I checked it in 6.0 before doing the training, I realized that the name had been changed! Obviously the sole reason was as a concession to FCP users. If they did it there, then there are a bunch of other things for which they should change the names.

But to really answer you question, probably because I have clips, but mostly sequences, that end up with dozens of locators. That would be a column out of control. I probably couldn't get it to sort to anything that's helpful. But the Locator/Marker window is helpful.
