Yes, I've had the same problem trying to get AMA footage to re-recognize a different drive.
I _DID_ have good luck with a 'cloned' drive (using Super Duper on mac)

As a workaround - I sometimes just make a new bin w/ all the AMA footage - and relink to that... although the Avid doesn't consider it the same as the original AMA footage, it's happy to relink to it as if it were.
