Hi John,
Unity V5 has the portserver built in to the system or should I say the 'Lanshare' portserver built in to the system. This means that there is a limit of 20 ethernet clients on your 'new' V5 system. I say new in quotes because it is End of Life as far as Avid are concerned.
The good news is you can also have an additional 26 fibre channel clients connected to the V5 system, so to get the 8 extra clients connected you will have to connect them via fibre.
You won't be able to use your old V4 portserver on V5 as the client connections are controlled by the dongle and this won't be read by the new V5.
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but if you want to stay Ethernet I'd seriously think about going to ISIS5000 instead or look at Terrablock.
Cheers
Stuart

Subject: [Avid-L2] Avid Unity Seat Limit?
We recently had to replace our old old unity with a newer model. The unit is now self contained in an approx 3RU unit. We thought the unit would replace our old one with the se]ame 28 seat capacity. Apparently the dongle is only good for 20 seats. We have been told this unit can not support more than 20 seats. Hoping this is not true and it's just a matter of a dongle update. The file versions of monitor.exe etc... are 5.1.3 something. Is this enough info to find out if it has a 20 seat max? Never spent much time with unitys so I'm asking novice questions here but no engineering support at the plant today. TIA
