I seem to remember encountering a similar problem a while back with SMB
shares. I think the reason that it worked on the third attempt (or
whatever it was) was that this happened:
First attempt: creates a folder that it needs (probably "Avid
MediaFiles") and then fails.
Second attempt: creates an "MXF" folder inside "Avid MediaFiles" and
then fails.
Third attempt: can actually export media into the MXF folder now, so it
succeeds.

There may also be the need for a "creating" folder inside "mxf", but if
you keep an eye on the destination as you try the export multiple times
you can see this happen.
I think the problem is that there is a delay in creating the folders
over the network and MC isn't waiting long enough before trying to use
them. I got around it at the time by creating s batch script that built
the required directory structure in the export destination (although it
does still add an extra step to the export).
