Agreed. But I think they are way-beyond "weak".

Avid's effects (and effects architecture) are dismally obsolete -- and a complete and utter embarrassment for a company that promotes itself as providing cutting-edge solutions for the professional postproduction market.

Avid's effects (and effects architecture) were "weak" 10 years ago. Now they are just sadly pathetic.

For most of us, the offline/online modalities of the past are long gone. Clients expect and demand finished product at the end of the editing process (or at least, very presentable comps for approval). And try as they might, Avid does not have the power to force the industry into an obsolete paradigm -- by providing feature-limited tools that don't actually address the current needs of the industry.

Tell me the name of one other software company, in any media or design related industry, who recklessly abandoned development (for over 10 years) in so many critical areas of their flagship product -- and who has survived to tell the story.

I can't think of one. And I find it mind-boggling that Avid continues to stick its head in the sand and ignore the severity of this situation.

In many respects, Avid is Norma Desmond in "Sunset Boulevard" -- a faded movie star who is "ready of her close-up" -- but who is oblivious to the fact that the industry has largely passed her by.
