Job,

Here's one guys opinion..

Walter has done the research and experimentation that a lot of us want to but
don't have the time to do. Walter's experiences chronicle real world experiences
that he (and his team) have gone through (the trials and errors) to reach
conclusions that work for them. He points out what works for them and why, and
understands that his is not the be all and end all of advice. He has been faced
with the technical, professional, and financial decisions that weigh on all
facility owners, producers, and editors. Choosing a system, weighing the pros
and cons, trying it out in real world editing situations (which mean different
things to everyone) and then having a staff use whatever system you come to a
consensus on.

I own a small facility in a small city. We had been an Avid shop, economies
pushed us toward FCP a few years ago, and Apple pushed us toward an abyss last
June. I don't have a lot of local professional peers, and the closest meeting
of professional users is a hundred miles away in Chicago. (Stephen Hullfish, I
still miss the Avid users group you guided). So I look to the L's (both Avid and
FCP), well written reviews, and more in depth comparisons such as Walter's to
help me guide our facility to the next. Whether that's the next NLE, the next
camera, the next workstation.

Most of us don't have the time to write down our experiences to share with
others, and I truly appreciate those that do.

That's my two cents, your mileage may vary...
