Jason,

I have two 12 core 2,66 and Media Composer/Symphony 6 work fine with Red. You need to download and install the Red Ama plugin from Avid and off you go. Transcoding is quick and clean.
Take the plunge. Buy a refurbished 12 core 2.66 from the Apple Store and save $700+. Crank up the Ram to 24 or 32 and never look back.
