Okay I'm buying Lion 10.7.4 cause that's all that's there. I carbon copy cloned my MBP startup drive twice and I booted to the second CCC to order Lion. I'm now downloading it which will take 3 to 4 hours according to the progress bar in the purchases. I already downloaded the disc maker program thingy listed in this thread. Obviously I don't want to stay up till 4AM tonight so when the download is complete will there be a prompt before the Lion installer starts running? My understanding is the Lion installer erases the downloaded install disk after completing the install. So I want to interrupt the install before it begins so I can run the disk maker so I don't have to take 4 hours to download this every time I want to install Lion.
I know this Apps store is just the way it is now but I can't help thinking this really is a somewhat unprofessional approach to distribution of software. I know Apple is built for consumers not video professionals etc.... but to make an operating system virtually unavailable in the typical merchandising chain we are use to seems selfish just for the sake of additional profit. I haven't looked but could I go to Fry's or Melrose Mac and pick up a copy of Lion? From what I've read it is only available through the apps store. I guess there is a way to get it on a usb stick but I haven't explored that. To play devils advocate what if I'm trying to run Symphony 6 on a mac SNDX and I have a session booked Monday and I find out on Sunday the client has used Moving Pictures, which I now know only works on Lion. It's Sunday and I have to wait 4 hours to download the new OS to be able to accommodate the clients needs. I realize V 6 is technically Lion only but I've been working okay on 10.6.8 because I still needed Rosetta to get to my unity through the legacy connection manager. I know doo doo happens but it seems like there are some serious bottlenecks being introduced just to increase Apple's profits even more.
