Re: [Avid-L2] Old Avid Gear

And those are good thoughts, Mike, for lots of reasons. It also means that functional gear isn't wasted, which is better for all of use, not just those of us have the gear.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Old Avid Gear

Hi all, so we have completed our upgrade to MC/Symphony 6 across all our
suites and everything seems good, but we find ourselves in possession of
several old bits of Avid gear, Mojo SDIs, original MOJOs, not to mention the
meridien gear still in the storage shed, and I am sure there are lots of
people out there with adrenalines as well. So I was thinking it would be
nice if Avid released general drivers for these bits of gear so we could
make use of them in "other applications". Something similar to Blackmagic's
video desktop. We could use them for capturing stuff from tape for archiving
or review, use with DAM software e.g. CATDV or similar, monitor outputs for
graphics stations etc. We even have a Protools original MBOX which would be
good as a Mic Pre for Guide V/Os and such but is now long unsupported. I
understand that they are not supported in the current generation of avid
software products but they are still functional bits of gear, and I
understand the marketing point of getting people to buy more hardware, but a
little bit of loyalty for customers that have spent thousands or more on
this expensive kit would be nice.

Just my thoughts

Cheers

Mike Drew
