ditto. there is also a plugin called "augustus loop" - essentially a very fully configured looping plugin - that has one cool feature that might be useful here: you can with the push of a button reverse the loop, and it does a quick slowdown and then a quick speedup in reverse. a very cool effect if used sparingly. you could use this, record it, and then snip off the reverse part. voila, a quick slowdown to stop. i do believe that there are other vst plugs for both mac & windows other than vari-fi that do slow downs and ramp ups, but can't recall their names. try KVR for good lists of available plugs.
