[Avid-L2] Re: Where do I find the current versioner.avd file?

Well there in lies the rub. We want to upgrade to 5.5 but can only get the 6 upgrade now. Our current dongle is blasted for 4.0.5. How can we blast it for 5.5 and 6. Version 6 is too unstable to rely on just now so we need the stability of 5.5. Assuming we blast for 5.5 and 6 does that mean we can't run 5.0? I'm not saying we'd want to run version 5.0 but in the past I could always downgrade if needed. I have always assumed a current dongle worked on all earlier versions of Avid but I guess I'm wrong. Now for my own use I just got a symphony cross grade with a dongle option. I went with the dongle specifically so I could use previous versions of Symphony if needed. This seems a little out of character that a current dongle won't run legacy software. I understand there is a different serial number scheme but it seems wrong to exclude it from working with previous versions. That kinda feels like Apple computers only coming with the latest OS and not being able to be back revved. ;-(

If you buy a new MC 6 license and also opt to buy the dongle option to use instead of licensing you still can not go back as the dongle will be blasted to launch MC 6 only.

If I'm running SNDX 4.0.5 now and get the upgrade to V6 but I also need to run V.5.5 for a while do I need to blast my dongle with the versioner first to get it to 5.5 and then blast using the flex versioner to get it to V6 or can I just blast to V6 and will it automatically work for all previous versions of SN? Also can you clarify if the versioner/flex versioner apply only to active support customers or does it apply to everyone who has updated regardless of whether they have support. I'm very thick headed when it comes to this. I'm going to call it Update Alzheimers. Every install I start from scratch especially between my ears.
