"Seriously, what works for most of us today will be laughed at by most of my students, all of whom will be familiar with Resolve and probably BaseLight as soon as they graduate."
That raises an interesting question in my mind. I remember in my days of yore there was a certain reverence/respect for the big iron tools of the trade. You really had to earn your way into a position to work on those tools. It wasn't for a few years after I graduated UCLA Film School that they could do a dissolve in a video edit room. Remember all the ad hoc devices to bring corner pinning to a DVE? I guess it seems natural in this day and age the power of the tools is taken for granted. I do think there is a big difference between being familiar with a tool and really getting the most out of it. I just hope your students don't laugh too hard at us dinosaurs. ;-)
