Actually no user intervention is required for infection. Admin access will
allow the virus to infect more completely into the system, but it's
absolutely not required.
The bigger issue is that many (most?) Apple users think they are somehow
immune to viruses (a myth which Apple is happy to go along with). This is
untrue. For the most part they have been less prone to such problems
because Mac OS lacked market penetration, but that's changed and therefore
the reward for targeting OS X has also increased.
There are viruses for Macs, there will be more. You should look at
anti-virus software.
Microsoft finally responded positively to the risks faced by Windows users
with the free Security Essentials software, it would be excellent if Apple
would do the same for Mac users.
Most of the major anti-virus vendors have products for OS X now. Including
free ones.
For this specific threat you should make sure you've updated to the very
latest version of Java.
