David, thanks for talking about this!
I guess users like me don't understand why standard customization options somehow need to be traded away when new features are added, or why these things are in opposition. It may seem like we're complaining about trivia, but all these things that you do a thousand times a day are the things that are most important in a sense. When they work well, they spare your eyes, your wrist, and your psyche. When the software requires that you spend your time fighting with basics like bin font, it actually exacts a physical and mental cost. Avid has definitely made some great strides in the past few years, but the loss of the things that made it an easy, sensible and friendly interface, like customization, are definitely painful. I would also remark that every time you change basics tasks like how you get in to the slip and slide trim modes, or the key commands that enable you to lock timeline position when you move segments around, you are depriving a user of years of acquired speed. There has to be a really good reason to change commands that have been in place for 15 years or longer, and I guess I don't see what value has been created to compensate for all the weirdness that has crept into the basics in the past couple of years.
Best,
Shirley

We tried to find a balance with keeping old customization options vs.
introducing new features vs. implementing a new UI framework vs. making sure an
Avid product looks like an Avid product. I don't mind reconsidering putting
items back in if it's feasible. I can tell you that we spend a painstaking year
and a half working with customers to make sure we didn't go to far and kept as
much that we could keep in the app. What you see is so far away from the
original re-design based on what customers reported back during beta.

David,
was there ever an official reason why all the interface customization options
were stripped out?
