RedCine-X _is_ faster and does not tie up your NLE.
You absolutely need to check the R3D Debayer setting in the Media Creation Tool, since that determines how the shots will be processed. Full Debayer easily takes 20 minutes of transcode per GB of footage, and Full Debayer is completely unnecessary for SD offline. For HD offline (in DNxHD36), Half Debayer is still plenty.
Usually, folks will offline in HD when starting out in Red, Alexa, etc. I for one am a strong supporter of that. After doing a Red feature in HD I had to go back to something in SD and it hurt my eyes. Again, Avid has DNxHD36 as a solid HD offline solution.

It's taking about 2 hours on mc soft V 5.5 linking to the Red clips through ama and transcoding. I don't know anything about what debayer setting etc... they chose. Is two hours in the ball park for this process. We have no Red Rocket etc... Does Red CineX do a faster job? Ultimately we would have roughly 15 hours of footage to process so this transcode time is going to add up pretty quick. Also given we'll be shooting a live show running about 90 minutes does this create any issues with spanned clips when transcoding or linking to ama. Just trying to see how much a a cluster flap this Red thing will be.
