Re: [Avid-L2] Share a clue with me...

I have to rant here just because I spent agazillion years in online in my
own facility and other facilities on both DS and Symphony
with literally 1000s of episodes of series. Some editors were great at
flattening their timeline and some are lazy fricken entitled babies that
could not give a crap what they handed over, they were usually the hacks
and I wish I could name names. I make no apologies to this description,
because we've all seen it.

Yes, there should be an automated method in completing this task partially
in software and I'm sure one day it will be there.

I also post supervised at a production company and it was absolutely the
assistants job to take care of this task. I created a step by step prep
checklist for the assistants that included, layer pulldowns, third party
elements delivery, fonts, among a larger list of online prep tasks. This
included consistent layer layouts for camera original material, stock
footage, titles, effects handling so that it was predictable for the online
facility every time. For cuts only I agree, but with reality or effect
heavy shows, the layers often had to be methodically thought out. It also
differed a bit for DS vs Symph because of the way the effects are handled.
I also did this, because I worked as both a facility owner and a post
supervisor. I know as an owner, I often would not get paid for the hours
of pre-prep prior to a conform, and as a post-super, I did not want the
finishing facility to have to swallow costs because the production company
was too lazy to complete the task of organization. Automation cannot
complete all that is involved in layer layout as there is a procedure that
has become ignored by the young "whipper snappers"

rant off.
