[Avid-L2] Share a clue with me...

Ok, all you finishing editors. There's a thing that I have to do all the time, that seems like it should have a shortcut key. It probably does, but I don't know what it is. If you know, show us how smart you are (or how ignorant I am!)

When you get a sequence from a young whiper-snapper editor, it often is 5-8 layers deep - shot selections that editor has piled up, with only the top layer being 'visible.' Now, I know it's technically that editor's job to 'flatten' his sequence before handing it to the finishing editor, but that doesn't always happen. So, my technique has always been to highlight the uppermost clip(s,) drag it down to the next track, then highlight the other clips, drag down, etc., until only the 'uppermost clip' is in the timeline - and clips in higher tracks are keys or layers.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to replace draggin down the clip? Like, I highlight 3 clips in a row on Trk 4, drag them down to Trk3, add a clip to the highlight group, drag that down to trk2,... etc. Is there an avid keyboard equivalent to 'Cmd + E' in photoshop?? (combine layer)
