Hi Guys,
I work for a cloud based DAM/Collaboration company and I can tell you nothing is easy to do with video remotely. Now if you have a huge wallet, a dedicated data center, client server relationship (1 to one connectivity) and huge pipe (and a aspera/signiant license for source files) you can do anything anywhere, at that point it is just a big SAN.
But to make it scalable, secure, mufti-tenant, take the clients network limitations into consideration as well as being sustainably profitable it is just not that easy.
Someday bandwidth will not be an issue, nor the cost of storage or cloud horsepower as expensive, then cloud editing will be a reality and instead of buying a local license to install you will just pay a subscription for the tool you want to use.
We have a text edit solution in the works that will export an AAF, so we take the limitations of the cloud, and take the task of an old fashioned papercut and bring it into the modern era, will be complete sometime this summer, will show an Alpha at NAB
