imo "non-linear_ is a misnomer. Non destructive is more accurate. We are, literally, editing on a time LINE, left to right. CMX/Ace, etc were vertical lists. My favorite of the early, non destructive editors was the MONTAGE...Montage was the Mellowtron of editors. I liked that it had "feel"..it clicked when I turned the wheels,,,I could spin them...needed two hands (thus using both sides of brain) to commit to an edit.
