Re: [Avid-L2] Epic workflow MC 6 and 5.5

well, it's been a bit of a pain over here. got "some red files" from a client that would not be recognized by mc5.5. after a lot of head-scratching and forum searching i finally discovered they were Epic files and the red ama plug for mc5.5 does not work with Epic. i did have some limited results with mc6, but transcoding and using "set source settings" to deal with the video levels issue - similar to ama'ing canon 7d files, low blacks and high whites - was disastrous (lots of pixellation.) i finally went with redcine-x, which is incredibly well featured for a freebie, but there were myriad gotchas there as well, mostly learning curve related. the video levels issue was still present, but a kind soul on the avid list (thanks Bogdan!) pointed me to a sub-setting of the export setup menu called "restrict smpte levels" that solves that. also, clicking the "M" button in the Look Control menu resets the file(s) to camera metadata from the shoot setup. (i hope all of that is clear. your mileage may vary... and remember i am a newcomer to redcine....)
