I make a 1080i/5994 copy of the final sequence in the 23.98 project (clip > Modify > format)
I make a 1080i project and open the bin from the 23.98 project, and move the 1080i version of the final sequence over. Open that, and Symphony adds all the motion adapters. If you have any weird motion, though, double-check the motion adapters. Media composer almost always picks the WRONG motion adapter setting when going from 720 to 1080- which we also do a lot. It usually gets the right adapter from 23.98 to 5994, though (target film with 3:2 pulldown.)
Interesting, I've never thought to see if the pulldown cadence was constant using this technique - I bet it's not. Might be better to output to tape in symphony universal and recapture. Plus, then you'd be (sort of) QC'ing.
