This has been enabled for *ages* actually. I'm recalling MCv7.x was the first release (so that's what - 1998 or 99?)
It was enabled to address one specific issue -- the "sorry - can't make that edit because there's a transition in the source at that point" when editing from sequence to sequence.
I don't think there was ever a Console command toggle - it was just enabled and we said "cool" and off we went.
