In Avid you can 'right-click' on an audio clip to change the 'camera' angle (but not, unfortunately, the source track - i.e. you can switch c1 to c16 but not a1 to a4).
There are some good feature requests in the community avid forums about where multi cam could go.
Personally I think using a multi viewer recording (or render) instead of trying to play 9 or 16 HD feeds makes sense.
Also avoid manually grouping... anything with same 'shoot date' and 'timecode' is available to switch to in my timeline... automagically
