Epic is a pain in the ass. For an FCP job I just finished with Epic footage, I used RedCine X to preview and select and then transcoded to an offline codec for edit and then re-xferred to ProRes 444 for finish and color (Color (the software) did not recognize the Epic files, which is why I went to PR444. However, we did do a base grade on the Epic files we wanted in CineX before transcode to 444).
