Ok, I swapped out the CPU and now have a

MacPro - Nehalem
Dual Quad 2.93GHz
8GB RAM
31TB 3Gb RAID 0 internal media drive
GeForce GT 120

And it worked. Digitized to DNxHD 444 350 X and to ProRes444 MXF. All with a Kona3 card.
