so it looks like the actual error I'm getting is
Exception: Movie export from procedures FAILED!, err code:4294965262
And sounds kind of like this problem reported on the Avid Community Forum

just a few days ago. The advice given was to Transcode to Avid Media or do a Video Mixdown.
Lame.
Oh AMA, your functionality disappoints me and leaves me wanting for something better.
