[Avid-L2] Re: Memory problems

 

Unfortunately this is part of the problem with Avid's 32 bit code base. It was written at a time when all the heavy lifting was done with dedicated external hardware so they didn't have to be so memory efficient. When it moved to having the CPU/GPU do the work, the sloppiness of the code in handling memory (memory leaks) became a real issue. The hope is the move to 64 bit will ameliorate this. (The proper answer would be to rewrite the whole code base with efficient code, but that is not economically feasible.)

You can use the "clear bin memory command occasionally to clear up some RAM, but the best practice when working with complex sequences or lots of opening and closing title tool, etc. is to just restart the application when it gets to full. At about 65 percent you won't be able to save a title anymore.
