Re: [Avid-L2] Re: AVID MC6

The answer is YES, but why would this keep you from using MC?

I have edited extensively in Avid MC (19 years) and in FCP (10 years) and the whole tabbed FCP timeline thing never really helped me that much and I love to create "selects" reels and am always editing multiple versions of spots, promos and trailers. I guess that I never felt I needed more than TWO sequences open at once, especially since they load pretty instantaneously. But I know that everyone has their preferences, and I respect yours.

So to answer the question:

If you want to use chunks of one sequence in another sequence, you CAN open TWO sequences in Avid at the same time.

Simply double-click to launch one sequence into its normal spot in the RECORD window. Then DRAG the other sequence into the SOURCE window. Now, in the timeline you can switch to see back and forth between these using the little icon in the bottom left corner that looks like two little TVs - one black, one white - side by side. The button is called "Toggle Source/Record in Timeline." You can also map this to anywhere on the UI or to any keyboard button.

The Source window can actually also show the timelines of regular clips this way, kind of like FCP did, though on Avid, it's not that helpful.

With the two sequences loaded, you can edit from the sequence in the Source window to the sequence in the Record window.
