I think you're thinking of the clip Source Settings, which allow
changing video (CCIR) to graphics (RGB) levels and vice-versa.
Unfortunately, it's only available if the quicktime uses a non-Avid
codec. I wish it weren't restricted in that way.

I'm on mac sndx 4.0.5 so there is no support for quicktime ama. At last a real practical use to ama to one file instead of thousands. The QT I deliver is made in QTPro from a QT ref movie out of avid to allow for 4 audio channels in the self contained movie we deliver to the network. The media is mxf 1:1 SD. If we upgrade to 5.5 for now, not ready to deal with 64 bit plugins, will the quicktime ama plug in maintain proper levels. I know it should in theory but having read about perian etc.... effect import vs ama link levels I'm wondering if I will have issues. As it stands when I import bars from my exported movie they come in spot on but will the same be true for an ama link to the media. Just curious because the only other option to QC the file on my scopes

This seems to me a better QC than using Tek's Cerify file based QC software which seems nice but doesn't offer much in the way of monitoring for picture issues other than out of spec levels.
