[Avid-L2] Transcode times for XDCam to 10:1 off optical disk vs san?

 

I'm being told that the transcode times for and XDCamHD disk are faster when the master disk has been copied to a san.  I get that there would be better throughput off the san but would that make a difference when transcoding to 10:1?  My feeling is the processing time of crunching the numbers to do the transcode would be more of a bottleneck than the throughput of the source of the media be it a PDWU1 or the san.  Curious what others have experienced.
