I find with SNDX 4.0.5 if I consolidate from a drive that I have read only I get an error like yours. If I have write access no error. I believe my error comes because the creation of the old and new clips on the consolidate make avid want to access the media data base on the source volume. At least that's my theory based on experience. From read only volumes the consolidate works but the system does a partial hang at completion but with a little coaxing the consolidated clips show up in the target bin etc....
