Just in case anyone still remembers this thread and still cares, I did
eventually come up with a solution. Here goes.
Because I am remote to the offline company's EditShare, I don't have write
access to the media drives. I believe it's because I don't have write access
that I had the problem. Tape sources offer no challenge; I simply recapture
those on DS; however MC doesn't put the required hooks in the metadata for a
clip to enable DS to re-capture (variably sized) file sources at the correct
size. Perhaps that's not true, perhaps MC does put the correct info in there
but DS doesn't interpret it correctly. Whatever, I am required to capture
files in MC prior to a DS conform.
You need to consider that a show that I receive will contain:
1. Files imported as DNxHD 185.
2. Files imported as 2:1 MXF.
3. Files imported as 10:1 MXF.
As these are SD shows I want to end up with everything local to me at 2:1
MXF (I generally work uncompressed in DS, but 2:1 is good enough for these
file sources).
So here's what I do:
1. Consolidate and relink all 10:1 file sources.
2. Import the above consolidated sources at 2:1.
3. Sort the bin by quality and location and consolidate all the 2:1
media that's on the EditShare.
4. Transcode all the DNxHD media to 2:1.
The 'new' step that I put in place to allow step 2 to work is step 1 above.
Without consolidating the media to be local to me I received the
Disk_Access_Denied message when I tried to import at 2:1.
So, I'd rather not have to do Step 1 because it wastes both time and disk
space, but it appears that I have to. I don't believe the problem has
anything to do with EditShare specifically.
Thanks for everyone's input both on and off list - it was much appreciated
