[Avid-L2] Re: MC 6 plug in compatibility?

"ALways wise to check first before you tell us we haven't "learned" anything ;)"
"Man you folks jump to conclusions. ..."

Marianna -- I have the utmost respect for you -- and I would have left Avid long ago were it not for you.

However, I do think it's a mistake to chastise us for a pricing disparity that we actually DID understand and were unhappy about.

I can completely imagine the challenges of dealing with a wide variety of owners needing to matriculate to v.6. But the simple and undeniable fact remains that it is cheaper to have NOT upgraded to 5.5 -- than to upgrade FROM 5.5. Avid's pricing challenges aside, you can imagine how that might not sit well with some customers.

This particular topic is probably best dropped at this point -- but I also think it worth mentioning that (aside from Boris) many of the questions and confusion on this list and on the Avid forums, could have been avoided if Avid simply created a clear and comprehensive pricing page that addressed these issues.

All too frequently, Avid's upgrade pricing and policies are not clear, they are not published -- and you (and a host of others) spend countless and unecessary hours repeatedly the same information.

Furthermore, this lack of a centralized pricing page sometimes leads to misleading information being distributed (note I said "misleading" and not "incorrect") -- such as the quote below.

Simply put, I don't understand why Avid doesn't simply publish a comprehensive pricing and upgrade policy page for every release. Why does mass confusion and the "firedrill" of distributing information have to accompany so many software releases?

Quote:

"Not true. Customers who stay current get the fairest price. It's $499
for 5.0 customers. It's a free distribution if you have a valid support
contract.

Take care,

Dave'
