Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Windows 8 Conjecture

Small points: Perhaps Avid has frequently announced at NAB and shipped
a couple of months later. But recall that MC 5.5 was announced in mid
February 2011 and shipped mid March.

Microsoft hasn't announced a Win8 release date as far as I can tell.
Analysts (sheesh, analysts!) ranging from spring 2012 to early fall
2012. Looking at past releases, that suggests Avid should be able to
have their hands on a fairly complete beta within half a year.

Also, look at the slowish OS adoption in the Windows world. In the US,
Win7 overtook WinXP in April of this year, but XP was still just below
40 percent of installs (one of those installs is right next to me).

So what does this all mean, and how difficult will the transition from
Win7 to Win8 be for developers? Heck if I know. But I can see an
argument for Avid to put some effort into making MC6 take advantage of
what Win7 offers...

Whatever. We'll all know in 6 months what's going on. I guess.

Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about.
