[Avid-L2] Re: Avid media on the cloud

Storage on the cloud?

It's our next step.

Cloud based media can be an option, BUT, there needs to be a lower priced Bin/Project only system. And price it down somewhere around 8k-10k (1TB mirrored storage for project, bins, and attic. No licenses included).

But a project comes along and you need to bring in 3 more workstations for 5 months. The shop then has to go buy 3 more licenses. Which of itself is no big deal. After the crunch time the 3 temp stations are gone, and the shop is back to 5 regular workstations. Then the maintenance contract is up for renewal and the price has gone up because the dongle is listed as having 8 licenses. And that's the new cost they have to pay even if those 3 other workstations aren't around any more. Which is just punishing your customers for wanting to use Avid products and workflows. And just serves to piss your user base (like me) off. Like when Avid doesn't want to let us convert a Fiber license to an Ethernet license and says that we have to buy the additional license which is going to drive up our support cost even though we won't be adding any additional workstations. But that's another story that has me all sorts of pissed off about how shitty Avid can be at times.

One license that can access Projects and Bins, and also media if connected to a Media Cloud Server. And then another license that for half the cost that can only access Projects and Bins from either the Project/Bin Cloud Server or the Media Cloud Server. But that might get a little too tricky.
