Subject: [Avid-L2] Catastrophic & Repeatable Potential Bug

It was time to start deleting unused media for a specific project that
has been dragging on -- and seems to be continuing to drag on.

So I opened my two Dailies Bins and then highlighted my latest sequence
in my Sequence Bin -- and used the hamburger to Select Media Relatives.

After copying the "related" shots to a third bin -- and while everything
was still highlighted and I sat there doing nothing -- MC performed an
Auto-Save and wiped out the entire contents of both Dailies Bins. There
is simply nothing left in those bins.

Fortunately, I keep a history of Project back-ups -- so I performed the
exact same test using one of my archives of those Dailies Bins. Except
this time -- I only opened one Dailies Bin. Low and behold -- when I
followed the exact same steps -- the exact same thing happened during
the next AutoSave.

So, be forewarned -- this behavior could easily ruin your day.

What is the solution? Well, as best as I can tell, if you click on any
one clip from the source bin that you copied from -- AFTER you have
performed the copy (thereby "deselecting" all of the clips in that bin)
-- then Auto-Save will not delete the contents of that bin.

I have trouble imagining this behavior is limited to just my
installation -- although it's certainly possible. But, if it's not
limited to just me, this is a bug that very quickly needs to be
squashed.

For the record, here are my Auto-Save Settings in 5.5.3

Auto-Save Interval -- 2 Minutes
Inactivity Period -- 15 Seconds
Force Auto-Save -- 17 Minutes
Maximum bins in a project's attic -- 1000
Max versions of a bin in the attic -- 50
